Changes in how well we remember are fairly common for everyone over time, and yet understanding what may be more normal changes, and what could reflect the need for evaluation and treatment, may not always be clear.

Sometimes, changes in mood or personality, rather than memory, may be seen.

Neuropsychological assessment can shed light on the nature and extent of changes in brain functioning, to assist with getting a solid diagnosis (e.g. Is this dementia or not?), in addition to addressing a host of questions about daily functioning, including safety concerns (e.g. concerns about managing finances, managing health issues, and living alone). It can also be helpful for family members to understand needs to better provide care and find support.

Helpful resources for those concerned about dementia or caring for a loved one with dementia can be found in our Neuropsychology Lending Library.
